AI and Professional Responsibility Disclaimer

Vellor is built on a simple principle: AI assists, the attorney decides. This page explains the limits of the Service and the responsibilities that remain with you, the licensed attorney. It is incorporated into our Terms of Service.

Vellor is a tool, not a lawyer

  • Vellor is a software tool for use by licensed attorneys and their supervised personnel. Vellor is not a law firm and does not practice law.
  • Vellor does not provide legal advice, and using Vellor does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Ellis Tech LLC.
  • Vellor does not represent your clients. Your clients remain your clients, and your professional and ethical duties to them are unchanged.

You remain responsible for professional judgment

  • AI-generated output is a draft and a starting point, not a final work product. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inapplicable to a specific matter, and it can produce confident-sounding errors.
  • You are solely responsible for reviewing, verifying, correcting, and approving all output before using it or relying on it, exercising your own independent professional judgment.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that any document, communication, or filing produced with Vellor's assistance is accurate, complete, and appropriate for your client and jurisdiction.

Supervision and unauthorized practice of law

  • Vellor is intended to support an attorney's work, much like a non-lawyer assistant whom the attorney supervises. You are responsible for supervising your use of the Service consistent with your rules of professional conduct, including duties of competence and supervision (for example, ABA Model Rules 1.1 and 5.3 and your state's equivalents).
  • Vellor must not be used to deliver legal services to the public other than through your own properly licensed practice, or in any way that constitutes the unauthorized practice of law.

Confidentiality is your responsibility

  • You are responsible for confirming that you have the rights and any client authorizations needed to submit information to Vellor, consistent with your duty of confidentiality (for example, ABA Model Rule 1.6 and your state's equivalent).

No guarantee of outcomes

  • Vellor does not guarantee any particular legal result, time savings, or compliance outcome. Laws and requirements vary by jurisdiction and change over time.
